A. Correlational Research Question:
The relationship between the use of Online English Reading Scheme and performance in English Assessment at a primary school
B. Background:
As more and more primary school students use the Online Reading Scheme, we would like to investigate the correlation between the English assessment results so that we could know the effectiveness of the use of English Reading Scheme.
C. Data collection:
· Population: The P.5 or P.6 students in a primary school who 1. HAVE used the English Online Reading Scheme; 2. HAVE attended the English Exam
· Sampling method: Random Sampling method – As every individual in the population will have the same chance to be selected, the “random sampling” will be used.
· Sample size: 70 students (about 2 classes)
· Measurement: Correlation coefficient
D. Implication for Teaching and Learning
The findings reveal the effectiveness of using English online reading materials in primary school. It is important to develop the reading ability of the students so as to build a good English foundation.
If there is positive relationship between the use of Online Reading Scheme and the English Assessment, then we propose that the primary school can encourage more students to join the Online Reading Scheme. It there is a negative relationship, then we should be aware of the truth and move to other methods in encouraging students to read more.
