Experimental Research Question III

Background:

Nowadays, students' motivation in learning computer programming is low. We are going to conduct a research to find out the new teaching strategy in teaching computer programming is effective or not.

Experimental Research Question:

The effectiveness of teaching student robot programming in Form 3 Computer Lesson on Enhancing the students’ interest in learning computer programming.

1. Data Collection Method:

We will first divide all the F.3 students into two different groups. The curriculum content being taught are the same for both groups. But for the test group, we will teach student programming concepts by teaching them robot programming. And for the other group, which is the control group, we will teach the programming concepts by using the traditional approach, that is, by teaching them how to write the Pascal programs. After the end of the programming lessons (about 3 months later), data will be collected through surveys and questionnaires. Students’ impression about learning programming will be collected to provide the necessary data which would allow us to find out whether the students’ interest in computer programming are enhanced by teaching them robot programming.

2. Target Group:
Form 3 Students of a secondary school in HK.

3. How this study can contribute to improvements in some aspect of education/teaching and learning?

If the students' motivation in learning computer programming in the test group are higher than that in the control group, we can prove that it is an excellent way to teach and learn computer programming for teachers and students by using robot programming.
