Experimental Research Question II

Research Topic:
The effectiveness of Integrating Blogging in Process Writing/ Using blogging for writing Diary Entries for Primary students in Hong Kong

Date Collection Method:
1. Data will be collected via pre tests and post tests of students' English writing ability.
2. Surveys and questionnaires about students' attitude towards Blogging and English Writing
will also be conducted.

Subject:
Upper primary school students who are newly introduced to English Blogging.

Hypotheses:
1. Students' attitude towards blogging becomes more optismistic.
2. Students will show improvement in writing (both in content and in length) through using blogging as a tool for collaborative learning.

How this study can contribute to improvements in some aspect of teaching and learning?
If the hypotheses is proven to be true, then blogging will definitely be an effective tool to motivate primary students to write about their experience, thoughts and feelings.

Experimental Research Question I

The effectiveness of game-based learning for students with low motivation

data will be collected thru surveys and questionnaires about their impression of game-based learning. school will help to identify the target group of students.

control group, pre tests and post tests will be conducted to evaluate the difference between traditional way of teaching and game-based learning methodology.

if it proves that it helps the students to learn more effectively then it can be a very useful tool when dealing with students with low motivation.

Experimental Research Question III

Background:

Nowadays, students' motivation in learning computer programming is low. We are going to conduct a research to find out the new teaching strategy in teaching computer programming is effective or not.

Experimental Research Question:

The effectiveness of teaching student robot programming in Form 3 Computer Lesson on Enhancing the students’ interest in learning computer programming.

1. Data Collection Method:

We will first divide all the F.3 students into two different groups. The curriculum content being taught are the same for both groups. But for the test group, we will teach student programming concepts by teaching them robot programming. And for the other group, which is the control group, we will teach the programming concepts by using the traditional approach, that is, by teaching them how to write the Pascal programs. After the end of the programming lessons (about 3 months later), data will be collected through surveys and questionnaires. Students’ impression about learning programming will be collected to provide the necessary data which would allow us to find out whether the students’ interest in computer programming are enhanced by teaching them robot programming.

2. Target Group:
Form 3 Students of a secondary school in HK.

3. How this study can contribute to improvements in some aspect of education/teaching and learning?

If the students' motivation in learning computer programming in the test group are higher than that in the control group, we can prove that it is an excellent way to teach and learn computer programming for teachers and students by using robot programming.

Correlational Research Question II

A. Correlational Research Question:

The relationship between the use of Online English Reading Scheme and performance in English Assessment at a primary school

B. Background:

As more and more primary school students use the Online Reading Scheme, we would like to investigate the correlation between the English assessment results so that we could know the effectiveness of the use of English Reading Scheme.

C. Data collection:

· Population: The P.5 or P.6 students in a primary school who 1. HAVE used the English Online Reading Scheme; 2. HAVE attended the English Exam
· Sampling method: Random Sampling method – As every individual in the population will have the same chance to be selected, the “random sampling” will be used.
· Sample size: 70 students (about 2 classes)
· Measurement: Correlation coefficient

D. Implication for Teaching and Learning

The findings reveal the effectiveness of using English online reading materials in primary school. It is important to develop the reading ability of the students so as to build a good English foundation.

If there is positive relationship between the use of Online Reading Scheme and the English Assessment, then we propose that the primary school can encourage more students to join the Online Reading Scheme. It there is a negative relationship, then we should be aware of the truth and move to other methods in encouraging students to read more.

Correlational Research Question III

The correlation between students' academic results and video games playing habit/preference

data will be collected among 100 secondary school students with video games playing habit thru questionnaires. students will be asked to indicate the type of games that they play, hours of playing time, role that they take in the game if it's a role play game and their video games playing skills.

academic results and their video games playing habit/preference will be analyzed.

if the correlation is positive then we can establish that playing a particular kind of video games enhance academic results in a certain subject. then we can further analysis the kind of experience, motivation, skills that video games provides and maybe we can use those elements in the regular lesson to help them to learn more effectively.

YouTube for Data

Swivel is a "YouTube for Data". It's all about data and it's a pretty interesting web 2.0 website.

You can,
  • Explore popular data or obscure data. Search for it or have fun cruising all the colorful graphs, data sets and opinions.
  • Compare gas prices to presidential approval ratings or UFO sightings to iPod sales. You might find a crazy coincidence or something more.
  • Share your insights by posting a graph to your blog or emailing a link to your friends and coworkers.
  • Upload the information you care about, describe it, pick a color scheme and even pick a cool photo to bring it to life.
And better yet, Swivel will be automatically comparing your data to other data sets in the background, suggesting possible correlations to you that you may never have noticed.
